The Joseph Sims Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a volunteer organization composed of parents, grandparents, teachers, administrators, and support staff who are all dedicated to the successful education of our children. We work hard to help make the school year educational, enjoyable, and exciting. The purpose of our organization is to provide support for educational and recreational needs; to promote open communication between administrators, teachers and families; and to encourage school spirit and pride.

What does Joseph Sims PTO do?

Thanks to our amazing Sims community and A LOT of fundraising, our PTO is able to provide funding and support for number of programs and activities at our school, such as:

  • VAPA – Visual and Performing Arts (all the supplies AND the teacher’s salary!)
  • Friday Morning and Virtual Assemblies – the PTO pays for the supplies and prizes for the fun “Hop To It” games that students participate in during the assemblies.
  • Golden Lunch Box – friendly competition, rewarding good behavior in the cafeteria with prizes for the top class. The PTO pays for the prizes.
  • Important Paper Folders – at the start of every school year, the PTO provides an “Important Paper Folder” to every student.
  • National Elementary Honor Society – introduces students in grades 4th through 6th to the National organization focusing on academics, leadership, service and character. Contact a 6th grade teacher to learn more about this program. The PTO pays for the membership, certificates, pins and refreshments for the awards ceremony in the spring.
  • Staff Appreciation  & Classroom Supplies – each spring we celebrate our amazing staff at Joseph Sims Elementary with a themed week full of treats and surprises.
  • Riso Copier and all the toner – the PTO pays the contract lease and ink for one of the two copiers used by the Joseph Sims staff. With over 35 classes at Joseph Sims, having a second copier really helps out the staff.
  • Coordinate PE equipment donations – who doesn’t love new PE equipment? The PTO maintains an ” Amazon Wish List” for the school that families can shop from. Purchases are shipped directly to our PE teachers and put into use right away!
  • PBIS Rewards – the PTO has set asside money to pay for student rewards. This school year (2022/2023) the PTO will use the budget for purchase games for the Star Game Room, otter pops for the field days, and a new bbq so students can have a fun lunch to celebrate the end of testing!
  • Digital Marquee – this year we are raising money for a digial marquee that will placed on the corner of Babson and Buckminster!
  • Stage Lighting for our Mult-Purpose Room – this spring we are raising money to purchase new lighting for the MP!
  • And LOTS of fun events and fundraisers throughout the year!

Come to our meetings

We love getting together with our PTO community in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere! Our meetings are usually held on the third Tuesday of the month (with the exception of December, June, and July). Each meeting includes updates on finances, reports on past events, and details about upcoming activities. We always make time for open discussion, as we genuinely value your questions, concerns, and fresh ideas. While attendance is not mandatory for members, we warmlyencourage you to join us. Feel free to bring your children along, too!

Please check our calendar for the next meeting time and location.
